Long Island’s Families Deserve a Strong
and Fearless Fighter in Washington
Cutting Wasteful Spending – The government continues to spend taxpayer money on bloated projects and wasteful new programs. Congress promised the “stimulus” bill would create millions of new jobs, but now all we have are higher taxes, more unemployment, and mountains of debt.
Fighting for Jobs – I am committed to making Long Island the best place to do business. Small businesses on Long Island fuel job creation if they have a strong advocate in Washington that fights big government red tape and champions business friendly policies. We also need to stop policies that favor outsourcing of American jobs to low-wage nations such as China, Brazil, and India.
Lowering Taxes - High taxes are crippling our economy on Long Island, sending thousands of jobs from Long Island to other states and to third world nations. I will vote to lower taxes so that Long Island families- not Washington bureaucrats can make the best decisions about how to spend their hard-earned dollars.
Improving Our Economy – The current policy of increasing government jobs in Washington while losing private sector jobs here on Long Island is unacceptable. I will work to bring common sense fiscal discipline to Washington by lowering taxes on small businesses that create real jobs and grow our economy.
Fighting Terrorism and Strengthening National Security – The most serious Constitutional responsibility our government has is to ensure that our nation is safe and secure. Terrorists and rogue nations have declared war on America. I will do everything in my power to protect our nation from Al Qaeda and other terror groups, and from other hostile regimes such as Iran that threaten our way of life. I will fight to ensure that terrorists are treated not like common street criminals, with Miranda rights and show trials, but as enemy combatants who seek to destroy our great nation.
Environment – Pristine shores and lush landscapes are among Long Island’s most precious resources. It is our responsibility to be stewards of our environment and to ensure we have the cleanest air to breathe and the cleanest water to drink. We can do this without a crippling regulatory agenda that eliminates thousands of Long Island jobs and crushes small business. I will fight to preserve our environment and to strengthen our economy sensibly and sustainably.
Healthcare – America has the best quality health care in the world, based on free markets, technological innovation, and high quality education. We need to make health insurance more affordable and more available. A massive government takeover will only increase costs, reduce quality and stifle medical research. I will protect Medicare and retirees, fight to control costs, and expand access for all Americans. I will do this by supporting tax incentives, promoting competition among insurers, and stopping junk lawsuits that drive up our costs.
Family Values - I am a pro-life conservative and believe that it is vitally important that our party and nation defend a culture of life. We must also fight to preserve the sanctity of traditional marriage.
Immigration - As the grandson of immigrants, I understand that immigrants helped build our great nation and are integral to the American spirit. But we are a sovereign nation and it is our obligation to control our borders and to enforce the law. In this post 9-11 world, immigration is a national security issue. We must complete the fence on our southern border and oppose all forms of amnesty. Equally important, we must increase prosecutions of employers who flout the laws and employ illegals.
Social Security - America has made a contract with its seniors who have built our great nation and it must honor that obligation. We must stop raiding social security funds to pay for other reckless spending. We must protect, preserve and reform Social Security to ensure that it will be solvent and can provide the benefits our seniors have earned through a lifetime of hard work.
Second Amendment - The Second Amendment states in no uncertain terms that "the right of people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." We must protect our Bill of Rights against liberal activist judges and lawmakers who relentlessly craft new ways to infringe on our rights. Defending one's family and property cannot depend on the whims of local laws.
Veterans - America owes its freedoms and liberties to the sacrifice of the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States. It is our obligation to ensure that we defend those heroes who answer liberty's call. I will fight to ensure that America honors its obligations to our veterans and provides them with the first-class health care and benefits that they have earned.
